Guest Blog Post Pitches
We publishes freelancer work across a wide range of topics. Sections for which we are currently accepting pitches are listed below. Before pitching, please take a look at the articles at the relevant links for each section to get a sense of the topics we’ve covered in the past.
Pitches should include a working headline, two to three paragraphs that outline why you think the story matters, with some indication of how you plan to report and tell the story (e.g., sources, key characters or narrative events). Also tell us a little about who you are and why you’re the right person to write this story, and please indicate whether your pitch is timely.
We want your personal stories and lessons that you have learned first-hand. Share what you are seeing and experiencing with our community. Your successes, your struggles, your pivots. It makes for more engaging and, ultimately, more helpful content.
Some things to consider before you submit your article or pitch to us
Article Length
In terms of length, generally we do not want stories to be over 1,000 words. There are exceptions, but they are rare.
The timeline
We’re excited to read your stories — but there are a lot of you. After you submit a story, expect to wait 2-4 weeks for it to be published if you’re a premium contributor, and 6-8 weeks if you’re a free contributor. (More on this below.)
Evergreen Content
We like to keep our content useful indefinitely. Try to avoid the specific words to specific crisis: COVID-19, pandemic, virus and coronavirus. Sometimes the words can simply be inferred, and doesn’t need to be explicitly mentioned, and other times you can swap in terms like “the current crisis,” “the global health crisis,” the “economic crisis,” etc.
Categories
Our blog section contains several categories: “Tips and Tricks”, “Inspiration”,“Travel” “Entrepreneurship”, “Veteran Transition” and so many more. The types of content we’d like to publish within these are:
- Highly practical solutions for common issues Entrepreneurs, and military – veterans families face
- Listicles – these are Buzzfeed style articles that share quick & easy tips in the form of a list
- Inspiring stories
- Worksheets and guides (e.g. those that readers can print out and work with.)
