How do you measure the value of an idea?

Have you ever heard the story of the pet rock?
The Pet Rock, was a fad that it was first introduced at “The Annual San Francisco Gift Show” by marketing genius and creator Gary Dahl.
He turned into an instant millionaire. with this silly, crazy, incredible and genius… idea.

Did you know that they made a whopping 15M in just 6 month….

What….?

Yes, you heard right, 15M dollars in just 6 month

How is that possible?

Let’s it break it down

They sold for $3.95, and had a profit of $3 per sale.

Each rock cost the inventor 0.1 cents

He sold them for $2.00 to retailers.

At one time he was shipping 10k pet rocks a day. He could barely keep up with the demand.

By now you might be scratching your head and asking yourself:

Were they made of gold? No, they were simple rocks that got marketed as “hassle free” companions.

What was included?

They included a hay bed, in a cardboard box with breathing holes as a pet carrier, a pet training and instruction manual on how to deal with this new housemate.

Despite the fad being over just 6 month later it does show the perceived value of an IDEA.
